Like many data people, I come from a technical background and approach to data, yet the most consistent message coming out as we drown in data today is how do you sift through the masses and create business value. Seeing Around Corners demonstrates how to do that quickly and consistency day in day out across your business.

The book should be a valuable compass for leaders and managers for how to achieve this.

Seeing Around Corners is a fresh take on what it takes for analytics to fulfil it's promise. It's the best book on analytics I've ever read, because it really sets out how to put analytics at the centre of strategy.

A fantastic read, really getting under the skin of why organisations operate in silos and why asking better questions of our data can help us work across them and drive value.

In his timely release of “Seeing around Corners: how to unlock the potential of Big Data,” Former Royal Marine Intelligence Officer Graham Hogg “nails it!” Graham artfully exposes the “Sufficient Conditions” required to accelerate value of invested technologies (Necessary Condition). His style is both engaging and thought provoking, using a rich collection of examples drawn from personal experience as a Royal Marines Intelligence Officer and stories from extensive interviews with recognized business leaders. Graham is a story teller, covering the often politically contentious, mission critical enabler resulting from alignment of individuals-teams-organizations to the achievement of their higher “Purpose” in a well-balanced perspective in the words of key stakeholders who’ve lived it.

Seeing around corners represents a needed contribution to the discussion of big data and analytics. The conversation to date has focused upon the potential transformative effects of technology and algorithms but for organisations to realise the benefits of big data, they need the culture, capabilities and organisation that looks at the right things and empowers people at the front line to make better decisions. Graham Hogg uses his military experience to illustrate vividly the role of management in enabling front line people to benefit from data in real time and highlights what organisations need to do if they are to reap the benefits from their investments.

About the Author
Graham began his career as a Royal Marines Commando Officer, specializing in Intelligence. On operations in Afghanistan, the Southern Arabian Gulf and Sierra Leone he led multiple specialist teams that had to adopt new capabilities and apply them to mission success. During this career, he saw that the best way to help teams respond positively to transformation was to raise awareness and motivation around that change was to simulate their world and give them the opportunity to codify the right tactics and behaviors that lead to mission success. Since then, he has led transformations across a number of industries and roles, helping businesses commercialize AI and tie it to front-line decision-making. Graham is donating 100% of his book royalties to UK & US Military charities.
